Check readers detect the MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) line appearing at the bottom of most checks. This line contains the bank identifiers (routing and transit numbers), the account number, and check number.
Mini MICR Check Readers
Retail check processing is generally accomplished by providing the processor with the MICR data from the check.  Automating this process reduces errors and speeds up the process.

How will you interface with your equipment?
Check readers connect to your computer systems or payment terminals using one of three methods: “Keyboard Wedge” (PS/2 connector), serial RS232 port (usually a 9 pin connector), or USB.

Make sure you select the right interface. Without the right connector, the equipment will not function with your software.
